Our products are available through our strong network of catering distributors. Transworld Specialties Inc Ltd was incorporated in 1982 and started life operating from a small retail unit in Covent Garden, Central London. The company was formed to import American bar products to the UK at a time when the UK market lagged behind America in terms of style and service.
The UK market in the early eighties looked vastly different to the mature market that we see today. The pub trade dominated the market with a very traditional and British style of service, beer was served in handled dimpled pint glasses and spirits where dispensed from upside down bottles with measured dispensers. The US market in contrast was developing quickly with cocktail bars dominating the market and the world brands that we see in the market today where in their infancy, but growing quickly. Influential market changing brands such as Hard Rock Cafe and TGI Fridays were starting to export the brand from America and the UK was a natural stepping stone to Europe and the rest of the world. The first TGI Fridays opened in Covent Garden in the early Eighties and had an immediate impact on the London restaurant and bar scene.
In order to compete London bars soon had extensive cocktail menus and bar tenders started to practice flare Bar Tending, the art of bottle juggling and cocktail making combined. With this came an extensive list of new product requirements, which by chance were available from our Covent Garden shop.
The business was soon receiving customers from across London and the retail shop was soon closed and commercial premises were required in order to distribute goods as an importer of American catering equipment. As the products started to be required outside of the London area the company sort to find partners around the UK to distribute its products and we retain many of these original partners to this day. The company’s products are sold exclusively through a network of catering distributors across the UK and Ireland.
The product range has changed and expanded as the company has grown and the majority of the products offered are imported from the Far East. We have established manufacturing partners with whom we work closely to maintain quality and price.
